Over 125 adults, teens, and children gathered at a waterpark in Surabaya for our second annual Yellow Flower family camp. The theme "Family; Love of Learning" was communicated creatively within age specific breakout groups throughout the morning. During the afternoon families laughed and played together on water slides, wave pools, and lazy rivers. Yellow Flower families, staff, local volunteers, and members of our U.S. team all agreed it was a splashing success. We are excited to do it again next year!
Ruth's House is bustling with life. We were thrilled to hire a center coordinator in January to oversee all activities and volunteers in the house. In addition to providing a safe and nurturing place for children to play, we have expanded our program to include private tutoring, math, physics, writing, and photography classes. Ruth's House has become a hub of entrepreneurship as teens and women from the cemetery have created a small crafting business. They have even begun selling jewelry and key chains to local souvenir shops.
The Cemetery Family and Child Sponsorship Program is currently in development. We already have 17 children enrolled in a pilot program and are encouraged by the positive impact we are seeing in the lives of both the cemetery families as well as the sponsors.
It's a privilege of a lifetime to serve the beautiful ones in Yellow Flower Cemetery. Life is flourishing and we can't wait to see what will happen next!
