Restoring the Lives of the Sexually Trafficked

Working in specifically under-served or un-served regions, Compassion First’s flagship international operation is in Indonesia.  The services we provide begin with the highest personal and educational outcome for each individual and include:

Aftercare: With the Greatest Future Possible for Each of our Clients, We Provide the Following:

• A Safe, Secure and Loving Home. Staffed with 24 hour security, incredible house mothers and support staff in and out throughout the day; our girls are at the center of an amazing family that is committed to their future.
• Medical, Dental and Psychological Care. Each child comes with unique needs. Most have never been to a dentist and need significant restorative work.  Each child also requires a comprehensive medical screening.  Within days of intake, evaluations are done and treatment plans are set in place. A therapeutic path toward recovery is also engaged.
• Spiritual Care. Our clients live in a Christian environment that is loving and grace-filled.  While wrap around discipleship care is a daily reality and an integrated part of our program and further pursuit of a Christian faith is encouraged, adherence to a Christian faith is no way required.
• Education to the Highest Potential of Each Child. We re-engage the educational path of each child with the assumption that they can succeed.  With a belief in each individual, our responsibility to the client is not just to see them complete their education but to help them to dream about the future that they want and then to work towards those goals.  Compassion First is committed to managing a case-file through the completion of their college education or high end vocational training. 
• Progressive Athletic and/or Alternative Activity. Over the next months we are introducing several athletic programs that provide our clients access to opportunities that they would have not otherwise had.  Formal program opportunities include tennis, golf, dance and karate.
• Legal Advocacy Representation. Each of our clients that come to us has been legally rescued from a trafficking situation.  As such, each one is involved in a case before the courts.  Even though our clients are only witnesses, the cases are complex.  We provide comprehensive professional legal care for each child through the whole of the court process.

Legislative and Judicial Efforts

Specific to Indonesia, Compassion First is working to change trafficking landscape altogether.  In recent years, Indonesia has adopted laws and engaged efforts that have improved the state to a Tier 2 status on the U.S. State Departments Trafficking in Persons report.  The laws, however, remain largely unenforced and otherwise weak.  As well, the laws themselves are being used to criminalize victims.

Compassion First is actively engaging in a Judicial Review before the Constitutional Court of Indonesia.  Success in this matter will close a loophole currently utilized by traffickers before courts that can be corrupted.  As well, it will result in the release from prison of trafficking victims who have been criminalized in the process.

Prevention: Changing the Future of a Child Before they are Trafficked

Partnered with government agencies including the anti-trafficking police of North Sulawesi and the Department of Empowerment for Women and Children, the broad-based effort for community efforts is underway in Indonesia.  We are particularly excited about a working partnership with a nationwide education program that works both with the Department of Education and at the community level in Indonesia.  Progress with this partnership will allow for the distribution of prevention materials that will fully educate families about what happens to their children when they are promised a better life away from the care of their families.
