From Meetings to Momentum: Strengthening Our Government Partnerships
Together with the National Network of Anti-Trafficking (Jarnas – Jaringan Nasional Anti Perdagangan Orang), we commemorated the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons through a series of high-level meetings and a national talk show held at the Indonesian Parliament. These events brought together senior officials from multiple ministries and law enforcement agencies to deepen collaboration and strengthen Indonesia’s anti-trafficking response.
About Jarnas
Jarnas is a coalition of around 40 NGOs and individuals across Indonesia. Founded in 2018 by Rahayu Saraswati Djojohadikusumo, niece of President Prabowo Subianto, it was created with a simple yet powerful insight: “If trafficking networks can coordinate, so must we.”
Why These Government Collaborations Matter
Driving Policy Reform
We are actively involved in efforts to revise UU No. 21/2007, Indonesia’s current anti-trafficking law, which no longer fully addresses today’s challenges. Leveraging our frontline experience and working alongside Jarnas members, we are helping shape stronger policies to better protect survivors and prevent exploitation.
Enhancing Transit Point Coordination
Our transit monitoring work at ports and airports has grown through partnerships with local authorities. During a recent Jarnas meeting with the National Police, we presented Compassion First’s Transit Monitor initiative, which has gained renewed trust and support. This partnership has inspired the National Police to engage regional forces to replicate this effective collaboration.
From Dialogue to Direct Action: Expanding National Advocacy
As trust deepens at the national level, we have secured direct engagement with Ministers, Vice Ministers, and other senior officials through Jarnas. These conversations are paving the way for formal partnerships, including planned MoUs with key agencies, expanding our network, and increasing our ability to advocate for survivors where it matters most.
By formalizing these collaborations, Compassion First is strengthening its role as a trusted leader in shaping Indonesia’s anti-trafficking efforts.
Your support makes this progress possible. We are deeply grateful as we continue to build trust and drive lasting impact at the highest levels of government.
With gratitude,
Winda Winowatan
